Global footwear manufacturer Changshin Inc. (CEO Choongil Nam; hereinafter Changshin) has been recognized worldwide for its energy management capabilities.
On October 2, Changshin’s Indonesia factory was selected for the Award of Excellence in Energy Management, the top honor for a company in energy management, at the ninth CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards organized by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), and received the award at the 15th Clean Energy Ministerial held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.
The CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards are presented to companies that have made outstanding contributions to improving energy efficiency and reducing energy use at industrial facilities, based on ISO 50001 (energy management system) certification, the international standard for energy management. This year, 37 companies representing countries including the United States and Japan competed fiercely.
Changshin obtained ISO 50001 (energy management system) certification in 2017 and has built up its energy management framework since. Notably, it has installed power monitoring systems at all its sites to drive innovation in energy management. The company runs a dedicated team that not only checks electricity consumption and power quality throughout the company in real time to detect anomalies, but also analyzes the results to identify ways to save energy.
The company is also continuing its everyday efforts toward carbon neutrality by proposing and running a range of energy-reduction activities employees can join through energy-saving campaigns and idea contests. As a result of these efforts, it has cut carbon emissions by 7,565 tons a year, equivalent to the amount of carbon absorbed by 120,000 trees over 10 years.
A Changshin representative said, “It is deeply meaningful to be recognized for our efforts to achieve world-class energy efficiency,” adding, “We will continue our various efforts to save energy.”
